This mural design showcases the airline's destinations and was to be fabricated from wrought iron strips bent into curlicue shapes evoking traditional Indonesia batik motifs. It was to be mounted on red-stained timber slats with stainless steel rods linking discs representing the destinations into a route map. A compass rose with the Garuda Logo formed the centrepiece of the design.

The design for this brochure was rendered in marker pens and gauche paint. Illustrations featured popular tourist spots in each destination.  The finished artwork deviated a little from the original concept. Typesetting for the body text was provided by the printer who were constrained by the limits of technology before the advent of computers that enabled a better text wrap around the images.

National Home Appliances Ads

Image
National (now known as Panasonic) electronic and home appliances were top sellers in Singapore from the 1960s. The neon-lit National Tower which houses the biggest product showroom in town was a controversial structure as it stuck out as an architectural anomaly in the civic district dominated by historic buildings. With its neon-lit facade towering over the City Hall and St Andrew's Cathedral, it was a photographer's nightmare. Here are selected ads produced to add momentum to its spectacular growth trajectory. Above: Full page press ad. Above: Junior page press ad. Above: Half page press ad.   30 ft window display at the National Tower, North Bridge Road, beside Capitol Theatre. Window decal for retail outlets. Selected published ads. Above: Half page press ad. Above: Full page press ad.
